  • photo of Rebecca Seaton from WDWTYA

I have been told that this is a photo of my 2xgreat grandmother Rebecca Seaton (c1812 - 1874) I am hoping that someone could date the approximate era from the clothes, just to be sure that it could be a photo of her. Thank you
PS: the photo was taken in Australia.

I would put it at the later 1860s.

Thank you Jill - that makes it a possible then.
She was about 64 years old when she died in 1874 so a photo in the late '60's would
place her age in late 50's.

The other possible contender was born in 1861 so she is right out of it.

        Looked on here

        1860s Fashion

and other sites and agree 1860s ...
Barbara and Don will, hopefully give their expert advice in time but her ears are covered and the hairstyle does not appear to be elaborate at the back

Her dress/bodice would also seem to fit

        (it's what I think of deliberately non-showy)

The date period of the 1860's would fit as the way that she is posed and her over all appearence would support this. As for her attire, she appears to have been wearing a morning cap with lappets that cover the ears and the only part of her hair that can be seen properly is the parting in the centre. The jacket bodice is closed at the neck and has a small (white) turned down collar to it as well as Bishop sleeving all of which would fit with the date line.
