  • another census problem

Louisa Slimond was born Liverpool 1873 to John Slimond(abt 1847 Scotland) and Elizabeth(about same age,Wales).
Have tried to find them in 1881,91
Have found a death for a John Slimond in 1889 aged 39 (1850)
Have found a Louisa Slyman 16 (1875)in1891,born Liverpool but an orphan and in Harpurhey Manchester.
    No sign of Elizabeth anywhere.
If anyone has time please take a look for me.

In those days Orphan didn't have to mean both parents had died, though it usually meant at least the bread-winner had died.

    Could this be her father?

    Deaths Jun 1889
    Slimond John 39 Liverpool 8b 105

There's a birth of an Elizabeth Ellen in 1875 who could be a sibling of Louisa's (can't see her either in 1881!)

Doh, you said that already! lol

Have found a death for a John Slimond in 1889 aged 39 (1850)
Her mum may have remarried rather than died.

There's a Frank Carter with wife Elizabeth (38) in 1891 living in Mount Pleasent, Liverpool. She is born in Wrexham. That's in Denbighshire, isn't it??

Is that them marrying in 1869? I can't see them in 1871 either. :(

Do you have the marriage cert? I was wondering if Elizabeth Prytheron's father was William, a tailor?

I was looking at these two census records:

              1861:

              RG9; Piece: 2710; Folio: 12; Page: 22

              1851:

Here they are in 1871 transcribed as Hemond!

                RG10; Piece: 3812; Folio: 9; Page: 12

Both aged 25, he's from Ayrshire Scotland and she's from Wrexham, so looking good for the marriage to the American, Frank Carter in 1890.

That doesn't help 1881 though!! lol

And here they are in 1881 transcribed as Steward:

                  RG10; Piece: 3812; Folio: 9; Page: 12

The two younger children, Elizabeth and Emma are very likely the same children recorded as Carter in 1891. There's a John too in 1891 and I can see a birth reg for him in the name Slimond. So that's just the birth reg for Emma that's missing.

There's a remote chance Emma began life as Mary Edith! lol (Q4 1880)
