Help needed opening a downloaded document

My daughter has downloaded a job application form and we can't seem to open it. We get a message saying it is unable to open as it is not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted. It appears to be a .doc file. Its probably a Vista thing but has anyone got any advice in easy to understand language.

A .doc file is a Word file. If you don't have Word installed then download this viewer.

Thanks Wendy I've downloaded the word viewer, opened the file and its printing as I type. ;)
