  • Australia help, please. Very little info

I've just made contact with a rellie on GR.
She has told me that one of the sisters of my 2xgrGrandfather emigrated to Australia, but she hasn't given me anymore details, so...

I'm looking for info on Alice Lees who married either James Kelsall or James Herbert Smith in J-F-M 1902 in Barrow-in-Furness. She obviously emigrated after this date.
Only other info I have on her is that she was born approx Sept qtr 1875 in Bilston, Staffs, daughter of Noah Lees and Mary Clews.
Her brother, George Lees, and his wife returned from a 6 month visit to her in July 1950, so she was still alive at this point.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you for looking
    Helen

Think we might have to start in England and try to work out who she married. But if it turns out she married James Smith, it could be tricky!

        Yes, that the right entry.

I'm descended from Alice's brother, Fred, and my new contact, one of her sisters, Emme.
Until today, I didn't even know anyone had gone to Australia. She's given me married names for several of the other sisters, but not Alice.
She mentioned the visit of brother George, and I've found his return on the incoming passenger lists.
I'll have a look for children post-1912. See if that gives any hint.

        Nope!

There are no births registered to James and Alice in NSW, but the online birth index only goes up to 1907.

            The following death is registered:

            Registration Number / Last Name / Given Name(s) / Father's Given Name(s) / Mother's Given Name(s) / District

            33461/1966 / KELSALL / JOSEPH / JAMES / ALICE / GUNNEDAH

There's a WWI service record online for a Joseph Kelsall born in Lancs c. 1881; his nok is listed as his brother James of Transvaal, South Africa.

There's another one for a James Kelsall born in Lancs c 1895; he lists his nok as his father Thomas.

Can't see one that looks like Alice's husband or son Joseph.

Not sure if that can be right.

                    Thanks Mary,

That looks like the right one, as Alice's parents were Noah & Mary.

I've been informed that they appear to have emigrated in 1911 (thanks Elaine).

                    Thanks again.
