Yes there is plenty of software out there to allow this, however there are two things to bear in mind...

      1) Your home pc will need to be powered on and have internet connection whenever you want to access it.

      2) Most workplaces will block this software (assuming you are allowed to install it in the first place).

Paul, https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/default.asp allows access via your web-browser and needs no install of software on the machine you are accessing from

It may still be in breach of any policy your workplace has regarding external access though....

You could always upload the files that you want access to onto Hotmail or Googlemail or similar so you can easily get at them from any computer, couldn't you? And that would save you the bother and expense of having to have your home computer on all the time while you're out too.

I don't know the definitive answer to that - but I doubt it. In any case you would not be able to add to the file as you obviously need the FTM program running to be able to do that.

If you just want to access the information on your family tree file, rather than add to it, why not upload your tree to an external site like Ancestry or Tribal pages. You can keep the tree private so no one else can see it other than you. Of course, the problem is you are better off adding new information to your master file on your computer, rather than to the file on the external site.

You might be able to upload it as a file but you certainly won't be able to run (use) it.

I would be very surprised if your works system would allow you remote access unless it's a small firm with only one or 2 computers and no network, the Administrator (if he's done his job properly) will almost certainly have blocked remote access.
