    all born in county

    1851- subdeanery, chichester ho107, piece 1653, folio 281, page 22
household of thomas gadd.the mother and sister of mary it is believed.

emma wills do, u. 27, b. chichester, sussex.

i cant read the occupations. can anyone please find ann after this?
it is current opinion that emma later married the same thomas gadd in london, as she is his wife in the 1861.

The Gadd/Wills marriage cert might confirm the thinking!

      Day Levi Camberwell 1d 711
      Gadd Thomas Camberwell 1d 711
      Lawrence Mary Camberwell 1d 711

Erm, the census ref for 1851 is the one you posted in post #1 isn't it?

An annuitant is someone who is in the receipt of an annuity, which we would generally class as a pension these days. A capital investment would be invested in shares or bonds or government stock etc etc etc and the income from that would be paid out on a regular basis to the annuitant.

soz, i thought you found thomas wills in 1851.
so is it plausible they are the same people?
i cant find a death for anne, and shes not obvious on any census after 1851.

sorry, I was just posting the occupations of the people you had already found!

Yes, it's plausible it's the same family. If Thomas married his sister-in-law he might well have gone to London to do so as at that date it still wasn't allowed!!

No, I can't see a death for Ann in Chichester. I've looked at about 8 quarters which are not fully transcribed by FreeBMD, but still nothing. It's possible the reg didn't reach the GRO or she moved elsewhere before she died or (less likely) her death wasn't registered. In those days you didn't have to register a death (before 1875), though it was prefered!

im not surprised. her family and the gadds were slippery.
i ony just found thomas' children in the 1861 census before they all married off!! and a few young ones among parish records. lived between census and died.

still cant find marian, but popular opinion on this forum was she is some sort of servant in a part of london where the census hasn't survived. like st george maybe. close enough to westminster.

                thanx for the thought merry!!
