  • That makes a change!

I know we often laugh that Ancestry has a lot of people born in Somalia rather than Somerset and Mars rather than Manchester, etc............

I've just been looking people named Saunders living in Bristol and saw this one in the 1851 census:

Issie Saunders b abt 1834 in Bristol Pernambrica

Wondering how they made Pernambrica out of Gloucestershire I had a look at the image. It turns out Pernambrica is almost right; it should read Pernambuco, but the word transcribed as Bristol is actually Brazil! lol

    Better luck next time, Ancestry!

Someone's relationship to head I found yesterday was 'Alma Poople'. I thought it must have been some term I hadn't come across before. It wasn't a family member but I had to look. It turns out it was Alms People. Shame really, I liked the word poople.

Adapted children make me chuckle every time

I wonder in what way they were adapted?

It really is a wonder that we find anyone on Ancestry at all.

But I guess a bad transcription is better than no census at all.

A correction has been added to the entry. One man refused to give any name.

Just spent 1/2 hour googling etc looking for this place
'Tomintoul', Lancashire, England as shown on ancestry

                  translates as Torrisholme Lancaster.

                  Ah well !!
