  • Ancestry check, please.

I may very well have gone insane, but would welcome a check!

    Can you please try

    1901 census Isle of Man
    Ref
    5300 138 17

and tell me what Ancestry says to you?

Is that on the 1901 England census OC?
Where do you put Isle of Man? It doesn't seem to be listed.
I tried just putting in the reference but it says no matches.

Thanks Chrissie and UJ - that's the answer I got too!

However, when I added first name Daniel to the search form (still with that reference) I got every b***** Daniel on the IOM!

I have the census reference number from the IOM FHS site, which lists the man I'm looking for at that census reference.

Won't your man be the one at the top then?

:D Actually, on reflection, I have quite often discovered that they aren't at the top when I put in the reference but usually half way down - oops

TNA says piece number RG13/5300 relates to:

                Registration Sub-District: Isle of Man
                Civil Parish, Township or Place:
                Andreas
                Ballaugh
                Lezayre Parish (part)
                Lezayre, Landward (part)
                Michael

Don't know if that helps, but I have to go out now!

Further to my last post the civil parish of Andreas and consequently piece number 5300, don't seem to exist in Ancestry's transcriptions. :(

No, the list was just a huge alphabetical list of anyone called Daniel.

Merry has confirmed the piece number hasn't been transcribed by Ancestry, so there's no point looking for him! Thanks for the offer though. I am going to put this family into a tin box and bury them I think, and get on with something easier, like particle physics.

Ha, you are going to regret this! But I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so thankyou.

Daniel Sayle born 1849 (but he always thinks 1850) born Bride (but he's flexible about that)

                              wife Elizabeth born 1849 Jurby
assorted children including Charles, born Barrow England c 1876, Edward born c 1883 Bride, George born c 1889, Bride.

I am sure he is the one listed by the IOM FHS at 5300/138/17 in 1901.
