  • A thought about Pallot's indexes

Some while ago I asked if anyone knew what "T" meant on some of the Pallot index slips, but didn't get any replies.

It has just occurred to me that perhaps it means the slips were prepared from transcripts rather than the original PRs.

Can anyone confirm or rule out this idea?

In many cases the stamped parish name is preceded by T or PR (transcript or parish register perhaps) and I have shown this in front of the parish name.

    found this googing

Thanks Val, sounds like there might be something in my idea. I hadn't come across PR myself.

And sometimes, where the original registers haven't survived, its the only evidence left.

It's very strong on London parishes, but it does have some from elsewhere too.
