I don't know what happened earlier. I thought I had replied to this thread, but apparently not.

    Hi KyleJustin,

    Here are some possibilities
    Dec 1864 Gadd Thomas, Shoreditch 1c 180
    Jun 1874 Gadd Thomas, Aged 63, Caxton 3b 281
    March 1900 Gadd Thomas, Aged 91, Rye 2b 1

Do you know anything of Thomas' ancestry as I am related to Gadds from that area.

    Jim

Did you order all the ones Grampa Jim found and they turned out not to be yours?

Have you got any of them on 1871 census?

As Emma was recorded as a widow in 1871 I would imagine the Shoreditch death is the most likely. Have you tried that one?

i didn't order any as i didn't have the money. now i do, and i thought shoreditch was the most likely, but they were living in camberwell, so why would it be registered in shoreditch?

so why would it be registered in shoreditch?

It would be flippant to say "because that's where he died" wouldn't it!!

You should have a look on the 1861 census to see who else that death might belong to before you go ordering it. If there happens to be another Thomas Gadd in Shoreditch then look to see if he is on the 1881 as well - if he is, then the death could still be your chap etc etc

I resisted ordering the most likely death cert for my 2xg-grandfather for ages because it was Poplar and I was expecting him to be in Islington, but it did turn out to be him when I finally ordered it.

ok then. it does look the most likely. are shoreditch and camberwell close to each other?

Well, fairly, but they are on opposite sides of the river from each other.

ahh! that's ok. my ancestor's frequently swapped sides of the river. it's just never been shoreditch before.
