  • Help reading birth place Somerset please

Thomas Murley b. 1778 on the 1851 census:

    Class: HO107; Piece: 1571; Folio: 530; Page: 14

The county is Somerset, can anyone read the place though? No such place as Norbur, lol!

    Thanks!
    :D

There is a place called Norton sub Hamdon.

On the IGI there are two submitted births for about the right time - one in Chiselborough, one in West Chinnock, both of which are very close to Norton sub Hamdon, so they might be worth checking.

Certainly looks like Norton. If that be the case, the Ordnance Survey website gives the following in Somerset:
          Norton St Philip
          Norton Hawkfield
          Norton Hayes
Did you know the Great British map has some quirky, romantic, eccentric and funny place names?

            That's the right one, Elizabeth.

Thanks everyone, looks like I may be looking in the wrong place for his will then, he died in Lambeth! :o
