Where did you find this information? Was it the IGI?

Yes, it's on the IGI, just checked.

You need to check the original parish register for more info if any.

Pre 1837 it was unlikely there was more info.

Someone on here may have Derbyshire Parish Register CD's.

There should be a little bit more information - at least, the parishes where they lived and the names of the witnesses. You will also be able to see whether they signed their names or "made their mark". You would need to look at the parish register which I assume would be at the Derbyshire Record Office.

Has anyone ever used the Joiner Marriage Index. The marriage seems to be on there.

Yes, of course Kate I should have said that :o

I was meaning that there wouldn't be the same info as after 1837.

            Actually Holcan

How do you know she was a widow?

That's the one on our Advertising Forum.

You have to pay for that info. It is free on the IGI

Does it only give the same info as the IGI?

Not sure how much info will be on the Joiner Marriage Index, but since the title is "index", it could well be that it doesn't give a full transcription of the marriages either?

Her maiden name was WARHURST and she married a Cartlidge in 1829. I assume he died in view of an entry in the 1841 Census Ref HO107/184/4 page 46

Don't know as I think it's pay per view.

Where did you get your info that Sarah was a widow?

From the Joiner Marriage Index FAQ's:
Do the actual parish records that you indexed contain more information than is sent by email when purchased? I am particularly interested in the parents of the bride & groom, their ages at marriage, witnesses, professions, condition on marriage, residence. If they contain more info, how can I get a copy of it?

The e-mail contains ALL the information we hold in the index. This is not necessarily the total of the data held for the event. This is why we recommend that searchers always get a photocopy of the register entry from the Record Office which holds the register. This should be considered as best practice in any research as our index should be considered a secondary or tertiary source.

As Kate says, you need to take a look at the original record. The Derbyshire record office is at Matlock.

Do you have an LDS centre near to you if Matlock is too far away?

You can hire out films for a small charge.

I've found an entry for it on a Derbyshire parish registers site which says that John was a widower and Sarah was a widow, but again, it doesn't give the full details:
Full text of "Derbyshire parish registers. Marriages"

If you have other Derbyshire research as well you could combine the trip and get a lot of research done in a day.
