  • Help with occupation on 1901 census, please

On the 1901 census I have

    Albert Rothwell

    RG13; 618; 102; 21

He is the second person on the page.

Can anyone tell me what his occupation is? OH and I have been puzzling over it but haven't come to any conclusions.

I wonder if the enumerator began with one word and finished off with another? The TNA says plumber, which it isn't!! Starts with PL though lolol

        Many thanks, Merry and Elaine.

Whatever it is, I don't think the enumerator has spelt it correctly!

Well it's not plumber, cos the Plasterer two doors down is spelt with a clear capital P.

Sorry, take that back. There's a parlourmaid and a painter both with a small p.

The final letter ends with a swirl that's nothing like any of the final r's on the page.

What strikes me is the variety of occupations for what is still (or was in 1963/4 when I was last there!) a tiny village.

Plumber, the slanted letter towards the end is a later addition, I think
