  • 'Platte' and 'Get Films Now'

Has anyone else been affected by these two? They've suddenly appeared on my desktop and I can't get rid of them. I appear to have 'joined' at 1 am Sunday morning - the 'bill' shows I owe zero. I seemt to have joined a black and white archive movie site.

Any suggestions please, as we are at our wits end !!

    This forum suggests a fix.

You should probably also run an antivirus scan, and a malware scan with a program like Spybot.

Apparently the site's lawyers are threatening to sue anyone who says it's a scam, so be careful what you say on a public forum.

From what I've read in the Guardian, that threat (to sue) is very unlikely to come to fruition. Their main business is porn and apparently they offer a free trial but offer alternative ways of paying for continued use to save their customers have it appear on their credit card bill. So they claim the software is necessary to prevent customers from continuing to use their sites without paying when the trial is over, but many people say they never agreed to it, and it is certainly highly questionable as to whether it is legal for them to hijack people's computers in this way.

Thank you both for your replies.

We did try the link you gave Mary, but couldn't get the instructions to 'take'. So, OH rang them up and after insisting that we did not download it, the operator removed it - no hassle.

That was easy enough, but as you say Kite, it's questionable whether intrusion onto your personal PC is ethical - we shouldn't have had to go through all that!

          What an experience though..........

They removed it from your computer? How did they do that?

OH talked to them and the chap guided him through which buttons to press - I couldn't tell you exactly what, as I just sat with my mouth open!! But it's definitely gone thank goodness.

Oh, that's OK - I thought you meant they'd somehow done it remotely, which would have been worrying.

Sorry Mary - didn't put that clearly. It bothers me though, how they could 'load' it remotely!!

I would differently run a virus scan, I would also recommand you down load some anti spyware software, I racking my brains as to what they are called - using works computer at the moment (just about to finish an 11 hour night shift) one is called Super AntiSpyware or SAS and the other is Spybot something or other they are both free and excellent peices of someware, many computer users advice the use of them. After I return to work tonight for another night shift I will let you know the proper titles.

                      Hello again

                      install the following software:

                      Super Antivirus Software

                      Spybot search and Destroy

                      Spyblaster

You will be able to find them using Google. They are very useful, since I have installed them I have had no problems with anything, I aslo have AVG installed similar to norton but very good.
