        Thankyou, he had a livery stables on other info I have from him. I wonder if Mews has something to do with that, I will have a google.

          Yes, a mews was a street lined with stables - they've mostly been converted to posh flats in London.

              Actually, Mews were orignally where hawks were kept for posh aristos to sport with, and named after the mewing sound they made.
              Later they became stabling, generally at the back of large houses. Today they are often very trendy bijou addresses for London pied-a-terres.
              I worked in two London offices whose back doors were in Mews, generally parking and fire escape areas.
