  • Marriage record, but no spouse...

    Hi there,

I have found a registration of marriage for Susannah Bailey in Q4 1859 in Tamworth. It is volume 6b, page 5311. However, neither Ancestry of FreeBMD lists a spouse/other people on the page. Why would this be? Is there anyway of tracking down who she married?

    Many thanks,
    Zoe

It means they haven't got round to indexing the whole lot yet, so her partner is missing.
Others will have helpful suggestions, but perhaps you might look in the 1861 cenus for a Susannah of the right age in the right area? That would give the name of a possible spouse and you can then check him out in the full BMD records to see if the reference is the same.Find Susannah Bailey in the 1851 first for extra clues such as place of birth

      HI Zoe

What year of birth do you have for Susannah and where was she born?

I think the image says page 534. The IGI has her marrying John Wright on 26/12/1859 and gives her father as Samuel Bailey. (Perhaps someone else could have a look at the image)

There is a corresponding GRO reference for John Bailey

Thank you so much! I had an approximate date of birth of 1838 for Susannah, and her father was indeed Samuel! Great

Edit: The birth is probably correct, too - her mother was called Ellen.

The marriage is also on the Staffordshire BMD site.

Susannah Bailey married John Wright at St. Editha, Tamworth.

I have just found them as Hannah and John in the 1881 census, I'll try and work back now.

(She was listed as Hannah in either the 1841 or 1851 census, can't remember which, so that was my clue to search for Hannah instead)
