  • killed in u k in 1940

my grandfather was killed by ''landmine'' in buckinghamshire in 1940 while working for charles richard fairey designer of the swordfish plane.
does anyone know if there would have been a death certificate issued at that time and possibly an inquest.
    many thanks

The best thing would be to check copies of the local paper from around that time, usually in the local library.

Have you checked through the deaths on Ancestry to see if his death was registered ?

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission site has quite a few civilian deaths on it.

      Ooops, lunch is ready!

There should have been a death certificate issued in the usual way. That would state whether or not there was an inquest. Civilian deaths were often played down at the time, to keep morale up, but I imagine it would have been reported in the papers.

If you give us his name, we could help look.

My husband's father also worked for Fairey, but after the war, as a draughtsman.
