  • Another Canada look up on Ancestry please

I have Bertie Mortlock going back and forth from Canada to England.

He was born in 1883 in Shimpling, Suffolk. Still there in 1901.

Next sign of him is Canadian army call up papers in 1917.

Haven't managed to find him actually going to Canada. Nothing on FMP until 1922.

There is a record on Ancestry as part of the canadian passenger lists.

It is transcribed as Bert Morklock, going to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

    Can anyone help me please

        Image received Elaine, thank you.

Bit confused by the Latvia start point.

Would you think that the ship started there but Bert embarked in the UK?

If you scroll back through the images there are pages and pages of Russian names, so I would presume it sailed from Latvia to UK and then on to America.

Looks like you can see the inbound pax list here:

              (He's on page 32 of 68)

                  The route is as follows:
                  1. "Search" - in red block on upper left
                  2. enter:
                  Name of Ship: Kursk
                  Year of Arrival: 1913
                  Port of Arrival: Halifax

This gives you a list of 7 possible pax lists, of which No 6 is:
                  6. KURSK Halifax, N.S. - 1913-04-26
                  New York, NY - [1913-04]
                  3. Click on "Kursk" - next to No 6
                  4. Click on "View Image" - top left, below "Item Display"

That gets you to page 1 - the summary page.
The first pages are all Russian-born people.
Your man is on page 32 of the 68 pages. I'm afraid I haven't spotted a jump-to option: you have to go through page by page. Navigation is by using the >>> top-right of the images.

I do think that site would be improved by a go-to facility with the images. Having to open them one-by-one when you know you want to jump several is very tedious!

                          Hi Simon

No, I think I have him sorted now. Thanks for the offer though.

He seemed to keep going backwards and forwards to Canada but eventually settled back in England.
