Of course, father and son can look completely different, but I would say there are enough similarities to say they easily could be (or related, anyway)! Same forehead shape, hairline and type of hair. The "son" doesn't have such a long face and the mouth and eyes are not particularly similar. Same noses but they are pretty ordinary noses! lol

Silly question ... but it's always worth asking

Anything to say who the photographer was or where they were taken ?

          Anything on the backs ?

I don't know about the two on this thread, but the first photo (Edward/George) is strikingly similar to the lady on your other thread with the children.

You probably knew that already! LOL

              Hi Rachel
I don't know the names of the photgraphers for these 2 photos. I am told that the one of Donald was taken c1920 and Edward/George died in 1882 age 34 so the one of him possibly taken a few years earlier.

              Hi Anne
I hadn't noticed the likeness between Edward/George and Martha until you mentioned it. They were brother and sister. Edward/George started life as just plain Edward (birth cert & baptism) and in later life called himself George.

Here they are in a row to compare their features
As Anne says, George and Martha are very much alike

                  Hi Rachel
That was very clever of you to put them side by side. The thing that strikes me apart from the likeness is that they both looked very miserable.

                    Hi Moggie
People in old photos often look miserable, but that's only because they had to keep very still for the photograph to be taken.
Sometimes the head would be held in a brace to prevent any movement, also it was quite common for the subject to be leaning on something with head supported on his/her hand.
