Open Office .org needed to open file ???

somebody has sent me a file but I am getting a box come up I have to install Open office.org
Is this free and do I really need it thanks

Yes, it is free. It is a powerful package similar to MS Office and in some ways is more powerful.

To keep life simple for you, I would suggest you ask for the file to be resent to you as an MS Office file. OpenOffice can do this very easily.

Hello Hugo and Val of course,
Hugo, I am still working slowly with the Excel and like it even though it drives me mad (more than normal) thank you. Does Open Office take up much space on a PC and will it conflict with MS Office? I thought I might try it out on one of these cold dark winters evenings. If I like it I would consider it on a new laptop when I get round to buying one.

It doesn´t conflict with MSOffice, Margaret. I have got both running on my new laptop.
