  • Can anyone translate a message in German please?

My distant cousin has been trying to trace our German ancestors who came from Hanover and he has sent out quite a lot of letters to people with the surname of our German family. He's just had this reply...and neither of us can read it.

    "sehr geehrter herr king

Is there anyone who could translate it for us please?

My German's a bit rusty, but I think this is right:

    Dear Mr King,

I'm afraid I can't help you any further with your search for your ancestors.

As far as I know, my family does not come from Hanover, but from North Brandenburg.

My father and his brother moved from Brandenburg to Hanover after WWII.

    Best regards,

    Klaus Kanngiesser.

Well done Mary! My German is rusty too, but you're right.

Thanks Mary. It wasn't the reply we had hoped for but never mind!
