  • 1901 Census - can you find this road please ?

I couldn't find this on the 1901 Census last night, maybe someone could point me in the right direction..............

I'm trying to find AMWELL HILL - Great Amwell - Ware - Hertfordshire

The house I'm really interested in is called Ravenscourt (or Little Ravenscourt)

If anyone could post up the ref from Ancestry or even see if the house (road) shows on the 1891 Census, that'd be very much appreciated.

My thanks in advance. Would be great to know what sort of people lived there, either in the house or on the road.

    Simon

The official 1901 census site does list Amwell Hill, so it should be around somewhere! Civil parish is Gt Amwell, county Hertford.

Update - it lists Ravenscourt as a separate entry.

I don't know, Simon, sorry, because it's just from the address search on the 1901 census site. I've looked throught the "description of enumeration district" for each of the Gt Amwell ED's on ancestry but I can't see Amwell Hill or Ravenscourt listed in those, so you might have to look through page by page or buy some credits on the 1901 site to get straight to it. Unless someone else can find it on ancestry?

If you tell us the names of who you are hoping to find there then maybe we can find it, though.

I's Frederick C Barry, Stock Broker, aged 33 with wife and children.

I only had to look at six pages as the first two districts listed as Gt Amwell were actually mostly Hoddesdon, so I tood a chance and looked at the last one first!

No idea at all on the names - sorry. It's the house I'm interested in - who lived there, what they did etc etc.

Looks like I'll have to go through page by page - it might well be that the 'name' of the house is fairly recent anyway !?!?!?

Thanks so much for the info so far - appreciate your time taken - thank you.

Maybe someone else can look for the address via a different site ?

Frederick Barry is listed in the 1902 Kelly's but by 1908 it's someone called Henry Horn living there.

I can't see a listing for the house in 1895 or 1899 Kelly's (doesn't have to mean it wasn't built though)

                                Possible Birth details of Frederick

Now the surname of his wife is Andrus - that sounds German / Austrian - is there anything mentioned on the 1901 Census as to place of Birth ?

I wonder if Andrus is some sort of a typo (I'm working off FreeBMD) and it was something like Andrews..........?

Dad is from Kent too. Ancestry have put Andrews, but it looks like Andrus to me.

Don't forget, this couple were not at the house for long, but maybe they were the ones who built it?
