  • 1811 Benhall Census

I recently went to the Suffolk RO & couldn't believe my luck when they had copies of the 1811, 1821 & 1831 census returns for Benhall, where my ancestors came from.

The later two were very basic but the 1811 one contained names of all the heads of house, whether their occupation was agriculture, trade or neither & the numbers of male & females in each house.

Not bad for such an early census! I think I've found my 5x great grandfather on it. I got a copy of it just in case.

Yes, I'm intending to check up on the early censuses when I get to records offices again. But I know whether they survive or not is luck, and not all the early ones have names.

I'd never thought about checking the ro for earlier censuses, what a good idea
