Just came across this

Manchester Unfilmed 1851 Census

The "missing" records are not actually on line, but the sight tells you where they can be viewed, and there is a name search and a street search on the site.

It is also interesting to read how Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society were able to access the damaged returns and transcribe much of the information.

I think you will find that these are available on FamilyHistoryOnLine - and as they are gradually moving all their databases over to FindmyPast, hopefully these will be moving there as well.

I hope they'll continue to be available on FHOL, because unless you have a subscription to FMP, it's an awful lot cheaper to use FHOL.
