  • Scottish Census Index help needed

I've found my ancestor Francis Deans who is a gardener, in newspaper articles for various Horticultural shows.
I have him on the 1841 census and through the article he seems to have worked at Union Grove House in Aberdeen.
A google search gives me that Union House was built for a Gavin Hadden.

Please can anyone tell me whether this gentleman, Gavin Hadden, is listed
on the 1841 and 1851 census at Union Grove.

    Thank you

    Teresa

Are you looking on Ancestry ?

I put in Union Grove .. on the 1841 census and there's a James F Hadden listed ... occupation manufacturer .. born abt 1811

He has 5 servants ... it doesn't say Union Grove House though, just Union Grove

    No Gavin there

Hi Rachel thank you for the 1841 census information. Its just Union Grove (sorry) not House. I've found it on an 1841 map. Is the same family there in 1851?

Teresa - there are no results for a Union Grove in 1851.

I can't see James Hadden anywhere else either.

Brilliant chrisp! And Harriet Commie was in the 1841 too.

I wonder why I got no results for Union Grove?

Just came back on here .... no idea why you didn't get Union Grove in 1851 ...
although the surname is listed as Haddow

I've put in Aberdeenshire (in the County box) and Union Grove (in the address box) and nothing else

                here's the link

                - Ancestry.co.uk

It says Wellington Place Union Grove

Thank you for the 1851 census. My Francis Deans was dead by the 1851 census, but it confirms that it must have been the Haddon family he was working for as they are the occupiers in 1841 and 1851.
