  • Can anyone find this marriage?

This is really bugging me now :(

I have two single people in 1851 who are together, apparenty married, in 1861, but the marriage is being difficult (probably staring me in the face!)!!

Their names are William Macey and Ann Wright (at her second marriage she is Ann Maria, but on the 1841 census she is Ann Eliza and she is flexible with her daughters names too!)

    1861: RG9; Piece: 682; Folio: 84; Page: 10

William Macey head m House Painter b 1828 Soton
Ann Macey wife m b 1829 Copenhagen, Denmark BS
William Macey son b 1858 Soton St Mary's
living in South Stoneham (a place and reg district in Southampton)

The son, William is probably one of these two:

    Births Jun 1857
    Macey William Charles S Stoneham 2c 48

    Births Jun 1858
    Macey William John S Stoneham 2c 45

    Back in 1851 there's:

    HO107; Piece: 1669; Folio: 385; Page: 36

William Macey b 1828 Soton, with mother Ann. He is single.

    HO107; Piece: 1669; Folio: 383; Page: 32

Ann Wright b 1829 Denmark BS, a servant. She is single.

    Should be simple, shouldn't it?!!!

I thought this looked promising, but there doesn't seem to be an Ann Wright married in that quarter:

    Marriages Dec 1854
    Elliott John S Stoneham 2c 71
    Laver James S Stoneham 2c 71
    Macey William S Stoneham 2c 71
    Shepherd Maria S Stoneham 2c 71
    Whitlock Emma Grace S Stoneham 2c 71

        Snap Mary!
I have checked the complete images for that quarter and cannot see an Anna Wright - but haven´t checked through all the Wright names.

Just checking in case there was an Ann/Maria Wright to Shepherd marriage, but all I found was this (aagghh...)

          Marriages Jun 1852
          Wright Anne * * *
          Wright Anne Ma* * * *

That one's probably Anne Maria Wright, Chichester, 2b 514. No matching Shepherd.

I've tended to find there's always a reason when people didn't get married in this era!

As yet, I can't find a reason for this couple. though I suppose William might have married someone else before Ann and it would cost a lot to find out!

Ann later married OH's gg-grandfather, William Cotton. She was his fourth "wife". He married the first one, left her, didn't marry the next two as number one was still alive, but married Ann after the death of wife number one. Ann Wright/Macey was the step-mother-from-hell according to OH's g-grandmother :(

              Oh, I'm rambling!! lol
