  • Not a village apparently, but born there!

Hi I would really appreciate some help in trying to find birth details of James Heaps born c1788 in Welch Whittle which, apparently, is an 'area' but not a village. It seems to border Standish, Coppull, Wrightington, and Charncok Richard all in Lancashire. It doesn't have a church so I wouldn't be sure which area to pick to look for baptism records either.

Can't find him on the 1841 census but I have him aged 63 with his wife Nancy in Duxbury on the 1851 census and have more or less sorted his family out. Helppppp! Thank you

By the way, :o do responses come via email or do I keep track on here?:o

Genuki says it's a township in the parish of Standish, Lancs, 3ΒΌ miles SW of Chorley.

        Hi Dawn & welcome!

Have you come across the Lancs Online Parish Clerks site - there are transcriptions of some of the areas around there. My OH has rellies from Standish & Wrightington.

Unfortunately baptisms for Standish are not on the IGI for the date you need, but there are several Heaps marriages in that parish listed.

Dawn, if you do want to be notified of replies by email then click on "thread tools" and select "subscribe to this thread", then there is a drop-down menu for notifications and you would select "instant email notification". But this board usually moves pretty fast, so best to stick around on here!

Thank you all for your replies. I will try the online clerk as suggested. I don't know about the marriage - would Nancy or Ann have been her full name do you think? I may try the church in Standish for advice. Thank you very much again. Will look in later this evening.

according to the Lancs OPC, Welch/Welsh Whittle would come under Standish.

Nothing jumping out at me for his baptism though.

Ann & Nancy seem to be fairly interchangeable.

In Lancashire you will also find Nanny used as an alternative to Ann quite often.
