    Hello,
I'm new and have been trying to help my husband find his family tree but I'm stuck and confused. He know nothing about his mother's side of the family, just his grandfather was a Hugh Hyland and grand mother was Mary Byron.
could anyone help me search through the records in the hope I can get a marriage record.
    thank you
    Hannah

Hello Hannah and welcome to Family Tree Forum!

Do you have any idea of likely area and time scale please - for instance, when was your mum born?

Know need to worry know one is alive, which is why I have this family mystery.
I managed to find my husband's aunt in the birth record but I can't find his mother, and I can't find a record for his grandparents. So I wondered if anyone else could have a look.
My husband's mother was born 1945

When and where was husband's aunt born? And where do you have grandparents' names from? Any idea where/when they were born and died?

Did she have any older brothers or sisters, to give us an idea when her parents might have married? Do you know where they may have got married?

Hannah....if none are still with us, can you put their names here, please.

So far I've got your mother-in-law born 1945.
Her parents Hugh Hyland and Mary Byron.

              Where are we looking UK??

              Any other siblings for MIL??

I think we'll have to wait till Hannah comes back.

I had a quick look as well, but without a bit more info, it's too hard.

The Free BMD site (Births, Marriages & Deaths) shows possible births for Grandpa Hugh:

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                      Births Sep 1914 (>99%)
                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      HYLAND Hugh Burns W. Derby 8b 761

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                      Births Sep 1915 (>99%)
                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hyland Hugh Ashley Wirral 8a 730

Was he likely to have been born in Lancashire or Cheshire?

There were too many possibles for Grandma Mary, without limiting to an area.

If you give us a few more facts, I am sure we can guide you!

1910-11920 isn't the only range you can look at!! try looking for a marriage around that time!!

the grandparents could easily have been born around 1890

                          No need for !!s

I did look for marriages - perhaps you would be kind enough to share what you found & I missed?

I entered the births for Hugh that I considered most likely, the only others I saw were pre 1890 ... less likely

Kyle, if I've understood correctly then Hugh and Mary had a child born in 1945, so Mary can't have been born around 1890 though it is true that Hugh could be older than her.

We need to find Hugh and Mary's marriage really and if that can't be found then we need the information from their daughter's birth certificate to work from.

The Hylands in my tree were of Irish origin.
Is it possible Hugh's family came from Ireland?

                                  Eureka ;)

Hugh Hyland married Dorothy Byron in the district of Crosby Jul-Sep 1941 (8b 1595)
Could she have been Dorothy Mary Byron???

After the 1941 marriage I looked for possible births in the 1940s ...

                                      John H. Oct-Dec 1942
                                      Sheila A. Jul-Sep 1947
                                      Patricia M. Apr-Jun 1948

                                        Hugh Hyland born 1882 Wigan
                                        Hugh Hyland born 1914 Liverpool

Hugh Hyland married Annie Burns 1905

Father and son? Or parallel families?
