    1901 census: 43 Bravington Rd., Paddington, London
    Edward S Brown Head M 64 Accountant's Clerk London St Mary Newington
    Sarah A Do Wife M 44 Sydney N S Wales

    (sorry, pressed the button too soon by mistake!)
    The marriage to Sarah was in Swansea in 1885 so I suppose they could be in Wales in 1891.
    Can anybody find the two Edwards, Sarah, Alexander and Ada M in 1891, please?

    A Sarah A Brown born Sydney, a widow aged 54 living Upton Cum Chalvey Slough.She is alone in the house.Just having a look for the children.

      Jim, Sarah is 44 in 1901 and her husband still alive, so she can't be a 54-yr old widow in 1891! Thanks for looking, though.

        Can't find the children in 1891, the Sarah from Sydney is the only one I can find.Ancestry 1881 census gives Edward senior as Edward L not S, living at 144 Old Kent Road.

        Ada M. Brown 1 Daughter
        Alexander S. Brown 4 Son
        Edward J. Brown 5 Son
        Edward L. Brown 44 Head
        Ada E. Fisher 13 Niece
        Emily Hagham 18 Servant
        Emma Hagham 19 Servant
        Ann C. Lacey 35 Sister in Law

            What was Edwards's middle name? Is it possible that that has been used as a surname, or the christian name?

                  Thanks for trying, everyone. Maybe they went abroad for a while to visit Sarah's family. I don't think Edward was entirely sure how to spell his middle name either, Merry! But yes, it was Shepherd or some version of it.
