  • Chipping a brick or two out but......

My age old problem with my Townsend family is still nowhere near to being sorted.:(

Today though i have found what might be a new uncle in the bmd, shame his name is a relatively common one and he is ripe for National Service due to his age (born 1920's).

I know what happened to my b/f, got all the certs, i thought he had just one brother, i know via electoral rolls where he (the brother) lived from 1976 to 1986, know the forename of the wife but can't even find their marriage, they might still be alive (nothing in the post 84 death index).

If i could just find her maiden name i might crack finding a cousin or two but i keep missing the marriage. I'm fed up with them again. :(:(

Going to lay down for 10 minutes..........got one of my headaches coming on with this surname again.

It was a bit of a rant really Rachel. I hate asking folks to trawl, especially when i can't pin down an event to a reasonable timeframe.

I have at least one marriage from the mid 40's onwards to find for the brother on the electoral rolls, presumably a marriage for the second brother found today and that doesn't count possible re-marriages.

Then possible death entries for the brothers and spouse(s), though birth years of 1920 and 1925 for the brothers they could still be alive, at least i know that one of them was alive in 1985-6 and was married to "D" but then the trail goes cold. Stayed in Lincoln? emigrated? Slipped into a life of potting sheds and bowling? Who knows.........

Glen, it could be that they never did get married but she just changed her surname to his, or they could have got married abroad - which is becoming increasingly popular.

I know that is likely for the parents, i've got heaps of electoral roll results for family members at the time of births (1920's) and death in 1984 (based on address details from certs) but try as i might i just can't sift out the stuff in the interim 60 years. I just don't know why but the late 40's through to the end of the fifties always seems my downfall, i'm always after such common names for that time.

I'm fed up and claiming man flu as the major cause of my problems today. hummphhh

S'pose you've done the phone directories on ancestry ?

I recently found the address of gt gran's sis-in-law in 1928 ... interesting as it's not too far from us

I was checking info sent to me by a newly found cousin who doesn't believe in looking at censuses and BMDs !!!!! His research did seem a little fanciful, but this location turned out to be correct

              Ooh

Hadn't tried that route, tbh it's so long since i looked at them i wasn't sure how far the updates had got.

Just had a look and can find the fella that matches the electoral roll results, the two other brothers both had the same initial and it looks like they were either out of the area, unless one of them has suddenly gained a middle initial.

On the plus side one of my rarer surnames seems to have a few matches that could prove useful in different bits of the country that look promising.

                Glen,

                Stupid question.

                Why not change your name?

                When in hole, stop digging.

I don't need to change my name - my ancestors did it for me.

                Hugo

PS Or were you looking for sensible help? Not my forte!
