I have just received a notice from Wolverhampton Archives & Local Studies Centre regarding its relocation from Snow Hill to the renovated Molineux Hotel.
The archives will close to the public on Friday 31st October 2008 and re-open at the new location sometime in February 2009.
The following is quoted from the notice:-
"During the closed period, documents held in the archive's collections will not be available. An e-mail and telephone helpline will operate, offering advice for anyone that has general questions about our collections, and suggesting possible alternatives. Please note that staff will not be able to carry out detailed research on behalf of enquirers."
The archive can be contacted as follows :-
Wolverhampton Archives & Local Studies
42 - 50 Snow Hill
Wolverhampton
WV2 4AG
01902 552480
wolverhamptonarchives@dial.pipex.com
A number of the parish records for Wolverhampton are also held at the Stafford Records Office, usually where the parishes were originally in Staffordshire prior to boundary changes.
Hope this info saves someone a wasted journey.
