  • Errr. Where did he spring from??

    I've decided to do an hour or two of researching:D

    Anyway, just stumbled across one of my rare surnames in the burial records but i have no idea who he is.

    The cemetery register shows;

    William GOULSON, 31 Jan 1863 Aged 22, Lincoln, St Swithin.

    That would make him born c1841 but there doesn't appear to be a birth or death entry for him in the bmd, (nothing death wise between an 1855 entry and one in 1901!) presumably the death would be registered in the Lincoln(shire) district, no idea where he was born.

    I did try the 1861 and 1851 census but there isn't a William that looks likely, although there are entries for Lancs and London which do also link to known places for the family over the years.

    Any ideas???

    Can't find him 1840,41,42. There are only a couple of Goulsons in that time, but no William.

      1861 has a possible born Bury St Edmunds with his uncle Samuel Pyott.

        Even though the freebmd database is incomplete there are just over 300 entries for the surname across all records from 1837 to 1915, most are connected to me in some way or other, the only places i don't seem to link otare the Suffolk entries (but who knows :D).

        The Goulson family were certainly in Lincoln during the census years and do connect to St Swithins, i have never come across this chap before though.

          I checked all the Williams dying in Lincoln, and he's down as Coulson.

                  Coulson on 41,51,61.

                  Perhaps it's the burial entry at fault?

                    Hmmm

                    The '61 i posted shows him born Caistor and there is a William Shepherd Coulson born 1840, checked the image and it is definately Coulson.

                    Bet he isn't one of mine then!!

                      Thanks Phoenix, reckon it's safe to discard him, i just wonder how many Coulson MI's are really Goulson entries? I could do with killing a few off.
