  • Joseph Baker lost in 1891 census? Help?

    Hi

    I have a family

George Baker b.1846 and wife Margaret Baker (nee Kirkby) b. 1846
    Children:
    Mary b 1869
    William b. 1873
    Edward b. 1874
    James b.1878
    Joseph b. 1881

I have them in 1881 living at 93 Bradford St. Manchester
But in 1891 there is no sign of Joseph??
In 1901 the parents have died and Mary (down as Nelly and the wrong age!)
is head of the house hold and Joseph has returned!!

I can't find him at all in 1891.... can anyone help??

    Thanks

    Tracy

Can you give us the 1901census reference.

    Ignore that - found it.

Joseph and Nellie Baker in 1901 look as if they match Joseph and Nellie Barker in the following 1891 census
      RG12; Piece: 3243; Folio 61; Page 10

Does the name Kirby mean anything?

        Thanks ever so much, Elaine.
Yes Kirkby was their mother's maiden name!!

Updated: Yes that appears to be them! But not sure who the GS Kirkby gentleman is??

        In the Kirkby family ( I am missing years 51 & 61)

In the 1841 census I have:

        William Kirkby b 1808 Huddersfield m Susannah Thomas b 1813 Huddersfield
They are in the 1841 census:
Living at Standworth St. London Road manchester
William Kirkby head 30 Machine Joiner not born Lancashire
Susannah Kirkby wf 25 not born Lancashire
North Kirkby son 6 not born Lancashire
        Eliza Kirkby 4 b. Lancashire
Mary Elizabeth 1 month b. Lancashire.

But then I can't find any of them until I find Mary in 1871 married to William Henry Baker (iron moulder from Birmingham)

Can anyone find the Kirkby's in 51 and 61.. which will throw some light onto who GS Kirkby was??

        Thanks in advance

        Tracy
