  • Help reading Occupation on census?

    Hi

Can anyone help reading an occupation on an 1891 census?

It for a John Seymour aged 46...

    Piece: 1143 Folio: 113 Page 16

Any ideas?? I thought at first it was innkeeper? but really not sure???

    Thanks

It's quite difficult to read but I think it says "importer".

        Thanks Nell

I don't think its collier?? do you??
That's who I'm looking for... a father John who was a collier and son John b. 1886 who was also a collier....
Not having any luck finding either in 91 or 01 censuses??

1881 writing is just as bad but on 1901 it very clearly says carpenter so it doesn't look like he's your man

1881 says carpenter and 1891 could easily be the same - or anything else for that matter! - definitely ends in 'ler' or 'ter'.
