  • How can I find parent details of soldiers

I have finally found I think another family member, only thing is I don't know who his parents are any idea's?

    Laurence Keating

    1st Battalion
    Birth Midleton Co Cork Ireland
    Enlisted: Midleton
    Rank: Rifleman
    Number: 8819

Is there a military site which I can get free info?

He should be listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site. Ireland was all part of the UK at that time. Some of mine do list the next of kin.

I am assuming you have this info from the CWGC site, not that it answers your query.

I've found his medal card on Ancestry but it doesn't tell us anything more.

Just because he was with the Irish Rifles doesn't mean he was Irish. Have you tried to find a birth for him elsewhere?

I am looking for Keating's from Midleton Co Cork I came accross him because he Enlisted in Midleton and it stated he was born in Midleton Co Cork Ireland, which is my area, I am experiencing real problems with this line to be honest, and it also ties in with a mention on a grave stone i found list year but he was with his Aunt, I am now wondering if the Aunt was his mother (if that makes any sence)

When on that site if you click on "future plans" you will find when they are all coming online with Cork near the top of the list but this is still probably at least 6 months away, and most probably about a year away from being online. There are three more counties coming online about October/November this year, to include Kerry, Antrim and Down. Then Donegal and Cork are the next ones. We are all waiting patiently for these events whenever they happen.
