My daughter works in the admin office of a grammar school and on the wall is a photo of pupils and staff taken in front of the school masters house.
All the children were accounted for and in the photo, BUT, looking out of an upstairs window is a young woman !!!!!.
The story goes...... A young woman hung herself in that house.
One can speculate she was a servant who had been made pregnant, had no where to turn and would have been dismissed anyway.
This is the information on the photo.....
It was taken in 1918
The head master at that time was an E.C. Chappell who was in the post 1909-1920.
The school was...Spalding Free Grammar School, Priory Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire.
Are there any suggestions as to where I can go to gather more info and perhaps name the woman???????
