  • Trying to Find Franklins in Harrow 1800 to 1861

John Franklin, born c1836 in Harrow.
Married a Harriet after the 1861 census.

I have found them on the 1881 census,
    Source Information:
Dwelling Harrow Weald Rd 6 Pleasant Place
    Census Place Harrow, Middlesex, England
    Family History Library Film 1341330
    Public Records Office Reference RG11
    Piece / Folio 1359 / 5
    Page Number 4
with children from 1869 onwards and traced the BMD references for all the childrens births, except first child Kate.

All the younger children are registered in Hendon, which is the district for Harrow, but I cannot find the marriage of John to Harriet or the birth of Kate.
I wish to find out when/where they were married, if pos, the 1871 / 1891census for their address/children details and the BMD for Kate.

John's parents were a William and Mary.
    William born c1806 in Pinner.
    Mary born c1811 in Finchley.
I have them on 1841/1851 census', but not found when they were married, first child Joseph born c1831 in Harrow area.
Any idea where I could look for the marriage records for Harrow?
And any chance of a 1861 census look up for where they were?
William died in 1870, but I have no idea when Mary died.

A lot to ask, but would be most appreciated to 'break down a wall'

    Thanks
    Trev

In 1871 they are in Harrow - John 32 and Harriet 32 - she is born Axmouth and he is a carpenter, so that all fits, but the children are Frederick 5 Alice 4 Emma 3 and Florence 1 - the last three born Pinner, Middlesex.

I think Kate and Emma are one and the same:

              Thanks Monty,

You have solved the 'kate' question, narrowed down their marriage date a bit more for me and even added more children who do not appear with them on the 1881 census.
So now to search for any deaths or where they were on 1881.

Canning road would be correct Jackie,
so may be Harriet has died and he remarried.

I'll need to look at the replies in the morning and start looking through BMD

Anyone had any luck on the William and Mary thing?

                Thanks

                      Hi Jackie
I have been told about the 1861 census record you mentioned before, but disregarded it, as it does not connect with any of the information I know about William of Pinner.

on the 1841 census: Harrow on the Hill
                      William Franklin 35 Ag Lab
                      Mary 35
                      Joseph 9
                      William 6
                      John 4
                      #####
                      1851 census
                      Registration district: Hendon
                      Sub-registration district: Harrow
                      ED, institution, or vessel: 1g
                      Household schedule number: 76
                      Address: Lodge, Harrow Weald

William Franklin 45, Born PINNER. Occ Ag Lab
                      Mary Franklin 40, Born Finchley
Joseph Franklin 20 Occ: Apprentice (it doesn't say what trade)
William Franklin 18 Occ: Ag Lab

But yet again, do we have another death of a wife and a remarriage.
Finding where the Sarah and Julia on the 1871 may help if I can tie them in with known siblings from the first marriage

There is a death for Mary Ann Franklin Hendon Q/E Sep 1853 Vol 3a page 49

Sarah is a widow in 1871 (charwoman) and Julia is a servant elsewhere (shout if you want the details).

                          Hi Night Owl......................
                          Shout please ;)

I have found the Marriage of a William Franklin in 1855 Hendon Mar 3a 73
And the birth of Julia the following year. None of the possible wives for William on the marriage record in BMD are a Sarah though.
                          Yet another puzzle

                          Thanks

Not found Julia on 1881 or 1901 census, so could have been married.

                                      Now to be cheeky....
Can the 1891 be checked to see if Julia Franklin born Hendon c1856 is there

That way I can narrow down the dates to search for a marriage and then compare with census.
