  • Help finding Elizabeth

I have Elizabeth Ann Newman, she married Arthur John Jackman June 1904 Barnet 3a 625. (I dont have cert)

She died 1944 in Watford Herts

I have no idea where she was born but have a date of 1874, but can't remember where I got this date from.

    Thanks

How old was she when she died? Does it tie in with birthdate of 1874?

I have an age of 70 when she died, and am trying to find out where I got this info from, thanks for the births, saw the Camberwell one, not to far from Barnet, where they were married.

Wouldn't her age be in the death registration index?

So if she'd had her birthday at her death, she would have been born 1874, if she died before her birthday that year, born 1873. I've amended the list of births I found.

But without her father I don't see how you will find her on census to know its her and trace her forwards - and get her birthplace.

As I don't know where she was born, only a rough year, I have no way of finding her parents name

The Camberwell or Abingdon birth seem to be more likely than the others, if you go by that mosted marriages would be nearer the brides home, what do you think Nell??

                      Chrissy

The way to get her father's name is to buy the marriage cert.
Otherwise, its guesswork. I'd say the ones nearer London are more likely, but we can't be sure.

People travelled a lot further later on in the mid to late 19th century and 20th centuries. Most Londoners were people from outside, rather than born there.

I suppose if Elizabeth had a son called Xerxes and there was a young Elizabeth on census with father Xerxes you could be reasonably certain it was her. But with the likelihood that her father was John, William, Thomas, Robert, or Samuel, I don't think you can be at all certain.

Chrissie, I have a Newman family in Islington around the 1860-1870's. No Elizabeths, though I haven't investigated the side branches of this generation. One of them was called Annie though, not Ann.
                          Mine were from Hampshire originally.

Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate - have you worked out if they are relations of the bride & groom (rather than just friends I mean

ETA: sorry just realised you don't have it yet But if they are Newmans, please post & I'll see if by any chance they do link in with mine.
