  • Where are they???

I have been unable to find my family on the 1871 census. The ones after I have had no problems with.

I was told that parts of the Liverpool census are "missing"...is this so.

I've lost a family who should be in Liverpool too, though I've not heard anything about parts of that particular census being missing...

Give us some names Kathlyn - or a reference from 1861 or 1881 - they may just be mistranscribed.

          Hi Elaine,

I am looking for a John and Mary Roberts in the 1871 census. Mary would be 20 and John a few years older. They have one child, Mary Ellen, born in 1870.

The would be living in Liverpool in the district of Kirkby or Bootle. On the marriage cert for Mary Ellen in 1894 she gives her fathers occupation as "Joiner"

I have a relative from another branch of my family that had the beautiful name of Flowers Woodland....oh boy but he was a doddle to find.

Do you know where the parents John or Mary were born.
Was Mary Ellen born in Liverpool?

Mary was born in Kirkby in 1851 Her parents were James and Ellen Mawdsley.

James was born in Kirkby, Lancs and Ellen was born in Hoylake, Cheshire

                  1881 census ref is...

                  RG11
                  Piece 3705
                  Folio 11
                  Page 16

Mary is shown with George Massie who is a lodger.

Mary is recorded as "Labourers wife". I am assuming that John is away at this time otherwise Mary would have been recorded as "Head".
