Struggling to find James Ashworth?? Help

I have a James Ashworth b. Hollinwood, Lancashire c.1847

I've got him in the 1871 census living at Highfield St. Dukinfield
James Ashworth 25 Journeyman Mechanic b. Hollinworth
Elizabeth (wife) 24 b. Hollinwood

then in 1881 - living at 269 Marshbrook, Chadderton, Lancashire.
James Ashworth (head) 34 Mechanic b. Hollinwood
Elizabeth 35 b. Housewife Hollinwood
Eda (daug) 9 b. Dukinfield, Cheshire
Ernest (son) 7 b. Oldham, Lancashire
Mary J (dau) 2 b. Chadderton, Manchester, Lancashire

I can't trace him before 1871... any ideas??

I think it is going to be very important to get his marriage certificate, because there appear to be two people of the same name, born at the same time in the same place.

I can see a James Ashworth in 1861 and 1851, listed as grandson, but unless you can trace both families back you cannot be sure you have the right one.

Our James Ashworth was married to Elizabeth.
I've got the application for their wedding cert in a envelope ready to post!!
But, am just impatient!! LOL

Have had a quick look Tracy, and can only see the one James Ashworth at the moment - impossible to tell if it is your man or the other one. Best wait and see what the certificate can tell us.
