hey guys how do i get wwi records? i looked up my great grandfather's name on kew's website, but nothing came up!!

all i know is what my grandparents have told me. but this was before they were born!

my great grandfathers were john henry morton 1896-1975, and joseph edward dove 1893-1972. john would have been living in ledds at conscription, he was born in london. and joseph was in darlington.

    any help or ideas?

There are 2 Joseph Doves on Ancestry (British Army WW1 Service Records)

One says he was born in the county of Durham ... oops ... killed in action 16th Sept 1915 ... mother/next of kin ... Elizabeth Dove

Looks like his wife was Hannah ? Beard ?

well, thanx guys, ive found john henry. he was literally first on the list.

he was a 2nd lietenant, in the engineers. works out nicely with family tradition.

i guess to find out if one of those josephs is mine, is to order the records?

it's not him. he married lily beatrice coates in 1920.

i wonder if he was in the army at all? he never talked about it. ad my gran never knew much about her family, they were kinda private.

A lot of WW1 records were destroyed by fire during WW2 so your ancestor's may not have survived.
