  • 1901 census lookup please

Victor W Woodman (birth registered Chippenham 1897) and brother Maurice E Woodman (birth registered Chippenham1899).

A new discovery for me and probably in Grittleton Wiltshire ... Maurice was buried there July 1901.

    Thanks

    Quite a crowd!

    Arthur 6
    Emily 39
    George 42
    Herbert 8
    Mabel 12
    Victor 3
    William 10

hang on, will find some more details

Emily was born Yatton Keynell, Wiltshire
    George born Littleton Drew, Wiltshire

    All the children born Grittleton

going back to 1891 there is an Eliza too. Born Yatton Keynell, C1885, although they were living in Grittleton by 1891.

On both occasions George is a gardeners labourer.

    cant see Maurice though.

was Emily nee Gale? in which case they married 1883 Q3, Chippenham

      Thanks Jess,

OMG, another George Woodman the gardener. I now have three, all gardeners and all born within a stone's throw of each other

OK, will have to calm down and try to sort them out!

      Thanks

      Edit

Yes, have been on Wiltshire BMD and mother's name is Gale.

Off to look at marriages now

cant spot her in 1881, not born in quite the right place anyway.

        I'll try a bit earlier than 1881.

        transcribed as Gall

        Sarah 15
        William 49 farm labourer

1881, where both the girls in 1871 Have left home and two more kids appear

        transcribed as Gail this time
        Annie M. 3
        Eliza 45
        Herbert H. 6
        William 50

All Born Yatton K , except her mother Eliza, born Nettleton Wilts

OK, now I've calmed down and put it on paper for myself, I think there are only two Georges. (phew!)

Jess, could I ask you to you check back to see if the Littleton Drew George is the son of George and Phoebe - I have a feeling he is (have a few transcripts of Littleton Drew PRs and this is the only one that comes up)

OK, Jess, thanks for your help. They are a headache but the Nettleton, Grittleton and Littleton Drew Woodmans are all connected. I think the connection must be very early in Nettleton (pre/early 1700's). BIVRI has good coverage of these parishes and so far nothing. Oh well, will keep hunting and maybe one day.... Anyway, the appearance of baby Maurice just confirms that there is a connection - I have a whole bunch of Maurices.
