    I can't make it out at all!

    It's Philip Symes, aged 50 in 1901.

    RG13; pce 200; Folio 128; page 13.

    Any ideas please? In 1891 I think he is a postmaster and grocer.

        Thanks Georgette - it does look like "warehouseman"! I had thought the first word might be "suit", but "silk" makes more sense.

        As for the middle word...... I think that's just impossible!!

            Joan, I think I've cracked it!

            It might say Sail Street Warehouseman. There's a Sail Street in Lambeth, and from what I can gather from google, it's still a commercial centre.

            About a four mile walk each way to work for Philip if that is what it says, but they did that in those days.

            Of course there might have been another nearer Sail Street which has since been renamed or demolished.
