Help please - I need a Lancashire expert, and OH has gone to bed! And it's for his tree as well!

Does anybody know exactly where "Stavingpoole" or Staving poole was / is? There is an entry in the St Michael on Wyre parish records for the baptism of a John, son of William Miller of Stavingpoole 10 Feb 1705, and two entries on A2A for c1712 Inskip with Sowerby, bastardy of Ann Taylor, widow, and Thomas Miller of Staving poole.

But I can't find anything else about Stavingpoole anywhere to see if it is likely to be OH's Miller family or not -anybody know anything?

Don't know. The only ref. on Googling was from A2A about a case at Lancashire Quarter Sessions.

Can't find this place at all. Wonder if its misrecorded, but cannot see anything on Genuki that remotely resembles it.

You could email the Lancashire Record Office...

              record.office@ed.lancscc.gov.uk

They may be able to help.

                Could it be Stakepool?

And as Jammy Dodger says, Staining sounds possible too. The spelling looks like Stanyng on an old map I have of Lancashire.

Thanks. We've found Stavens Poole bridge on the map now, and a few references to Stavinspoole and variations of it, and it was definitely at Inskip with Sowerby which is what I was hoping.
