  • 1871 census

I am unable to find my great grandparents in the 1871 census. They were in Liverpool at this time but have been informed that that part of the census is "missing".

Is there some other route I can go down please?

This is the info from FMP:

    1871 Census - known problems
3278 Leicestershire Parish: St Margaret, Leicester

    4213 Lancashire Parish: Preston

4729 Yorkshire Parish: Eastoft and Haldenby

    5444 Glamorgan Parish: Llangyfelach
    Parish: Penderry
    Parish:Llandilotalybont

    5590 Breconshire Parish: Talgarth
    Parish: Grwyne-fawr
    Parish: Grwyne-fechan
So it looks as if you should be OK, unless they were in Preston.

Of course all the census transcriptions are open to error!

If you share the names - plus any possible others in the same household - some of us here enjoy the challenge of searching for missing names. We can't guarantee a result, but we have fun trying!

Have you checked variations on names to see if they have been mistranscribed.
1871 is also available on Findmypast - have you checked there.

Do you want to give us some names - you never know if a second pair of eyes might help!
