  • England Coroners Reports 1890

I there all, I have just purchased a death certificate for my great grand uncle Henry Wicks(1890). It states that he drowned on his property and that an inquest was conducted, can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of this inquest???

I forgot to mention that this is an England inquest

Much simpler to look for a local newspaper report of the inquest.

Coroner's reports are usually destroyed after 25 years (not always though).

Just for the record, the process in Scotland is slightly different. I have a similar case round about the same time. The death register says he was found drowned in a well. There is an entry in the Register of Corrected Entries (RCE) a few weeks later that says the Procurator Fiscal found that he committed suicide. So for Scottish deaths up to 1957you can get the full story from ScotlandsPeople.

Coroner's records might still be with the current coroner; or with the relevant county archives; or destroyed.

As OC says, newspaper reports of the inquest should give you the facts.
