  • national archives or ancestry?

who is better for the census? i notice when i trawl thriugh the indexes, sometimes one site wil have my family and the other won't, or neither will have my family.

    does one work out cheaper?

The National Archives link to Ancestry's census so they are the same apart from 1901.

The National Archives has a much more accurate transcription of the 1901 census than Ancestry.

Findmypast also has transcriptions of most censuses.

At present, I think the best value is still Ancestry, because you'll soon spend a lot of money on buying credits from the National Archives.

You do have to learn to use alternative spellings, or just put in place o birth and first name etc to find some people.
