It's a souvenir of someone's golden jubilee (or anniversary) of being a priest, I'd say.

Is John Whelan your fellow, Danny.

I think he did die soon after the jubilee.

I just wonder if i can find the church he was the priest in and get some info.

Danny was it 1st or 9th Jan???

I just realised that site has 1/9/1946 for that Fr Whelan. Have the Americans always put their day and month back to front???? If so, it should be 9th Jan.

Their date could be his funeral if it was January.

It is down as the 9th of January.

I have it written down in a letter from my Grandad's cousin from Belfast.
It was his uncle, his mother was Sarah Whelan (my gg nan) she was the only one of the Whelans that didnt move to the U.S.A.

Sacerdos/Sacerdotis is Latin for Priest. The second form is the genitive/possessive.
(If my 'O' level memory is correct!)

That would mean it was the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
