BTW the census ref is what's at the bottom of the decription of the family on Ancestry, a series of letters and numbers ending with the folio and page numbers. Like what Elaine has just put up.

Thanks Merry.
So from the list of children, I'm assuming that Eliza, Ellen, Jane, Martha and Mary are from John's first marriage (it is confusing as she was an Ann!)
Then Caroline and Emily were Ann's children and that John Dryden Pearson is the only child from these two??
If that's correct, then it accounts for Ann's age... obviously the first Ann was older!! Drrrrrhhhhh!!!!
I told you I'm still learning!! LOL!
Thanks again
Tracy
If John and Ann had their son John Dryden in 1850 - would it be logical that Dryden was her maiden name? If she had been married before to a Mr Dryden you wouldn't think they would name their child after her dead first husband??
Confused???
Lancs BMD shows that her maiden name was either Wernyss or Dryden. You would have to look at the original parish record of the cathedral
Thanks Pat,
She was married to a Mr Wemyss and must have been Dryden before.
All a bit irrelevant as I'm really looking for the first Mrs Ann Pearson (the mother of my ancestor). They must have married around 1828 as their first child Sarah was born in Hoghton Lancashire in 1829, so I'm guessing I'd be looking in that area!
