  • Did two sisters marry two brothers?

Did two sisters marry two brothers or is it just a coincidence??

Am researching my husband's tree and his gt gt grandmother was a Margaret Kirkby b.1846 Manchester. She married a George Baker b.1846 Liverpool (parents from Warwickshire). Margaret's sister, Mary b. 1839 Manchester also married a Baker..... William Henry Baker b. 1839 Birmingham, Warwicks. In 1871 census the two families are living in Manchester together.
Can anyone find a connection?? Its got me stumped!
Oh yes, the sister Mary and husband William H had a very famous daughter...
the opera singer, Louisa Kirkby Lunn!!

Would love to see if there is a connection??

        Hi Helen

Yes I saw that census, and that is what made me think they could be brothers.

This is the 1871 census when they are visiting....

William Henry Baker (head) 31 - Iron Moulder b Birmingham

Tracy, it seems very likely that they were brothers but as the name is so common, you might need to get both marriage certificates to check that the father's details match.

                Marriage 12/6/1862-Manchester Cathedral
                William Henry BAKER
                Mary Elizabeth KIRKBY.

Cannot find the other marriage though.
If you would like me to look this up when I am next in Manchester let me know. It will save you the price of at least one cert.

Thanks for that Holcan - that would be great!

I seem to be getting more and more certs.... its getting quite expensive LOL!!!

Do you think Margaret and George possibly married at the cathedral too??

                  Thanks

OC has told us in the past that Manchester Cathedral was the Gretna Green of English marriages, with few questions asked. :D
